Scientists from the Institute of Food Research in Norwich and the University Hospital of Messina conducted experiments that revealed the unique properties of almonds. Their study showed that: a compound contained in the skin of almonds, increases the body’s immune response to infections such as colds and flu, writes The Telegraph.
Peel almonds enhances the ability of white blood cells to detect viruses and increased the activity of a natural mechanism that prevents viruses share and spread in the body. Remarkably: Even after the digested almonds, there was an increase in immune defense against viruses, even for a while.
The researchers tested the immune response by using the herpes simplex virus type 2, which can cause cold sores. This virus is very difficult to treat because it can evade the immune system side, suppressing the inflammatory response. The extract from the skins of almonds handled with the herpes virus.
Now, scientists have been uncertain due to which almonds has the following properties. Maybe it’s in polyphenols. It is thought that polyphenols increase the sensitivity of white blood cells known as T-cells involved in the fight against viruses. While experts do not say how much to eat almonds to achieve the desired result, but they emphasize that regular consumption of nuts may be a good prevention of viral diseases, and a great tool, saving already sick people.
